When you lose a tooth, you need to have it replaced as quickly as possible. That’s because a missing tooth makes it harder for you to chew food properly. Other teeth can also grow into the gap which will lead to uneven teeth. In addition, the bone underneath the missing tooth will deteriorate as well. Worse, you won’t be able to smile as often as you’d like because you’re conscious about letting other people see you’re missing a tooth or two.
At Dental Savers, we can offer you several solutions for missing teeth when you visit our clinic in Mayfair, Philadelphia. But for most of our patients who have this problem, we always recommend dental implants.
A dental implant is essentially a titanium screw, which we will install through your gums and your jawbone. This device functions like the root of your teeth, as it provides the foundation for your replacement teeth. Once the dental implant is securely in position, we then put a crown on top to replace your missing teeth. At Dental Savers, we take care to shape and color the crown properly so that it looks and functions like a real tooth.
Advantages of Dental Implants
Like other options for replacement teeth, a dental implant allows you to smile more confidently and chew your food more effectively. But it also offers several advantages that you won’t find in other options.
A dental implant is a permanent replacement for missing teeth, and that basically means it will last for the rest of your life. You don’t have to be afraid to smile and laugh anymore in public. And you don’t have to worry that your replacement teeth will suddenly get dislodged when you sneeze, cough, or laugh out loud. These accidents can be horrifying when you’re with a date or when speaking with a potential business client.
Dental implants feel natural so there’s no feeling of discomfort even from the very beginning. You don’t need to go through a period of adjustment. Among all the options you have when it comes to replacing your teeth, dental implants are the most comfortable. It just feels right, just like your natural teeth.
You also won’t need to take it out every night. There are no special maintenance requirements. All you need to do is to take care of them like you would your natural teeth. Brush and floss you teeth regularly, and see your dentist at least twice a year. With dental implants, you have the next best thing to real teeth.
What to Expect
When you have a missing tooth and you come in for a dental implant, we will first check the condition of your jawbone with the help of X-rays to see if it can accept a dental implant. If it can’t, don’t worry. There are things we can do to improve your jawbone.
Once that’s done, we will install the dental implant on your first visit, and then you’ll leave our clinic with a temporary crown at the top of the implant. We will then schedule a second visit, with enough time in between to make sure that the dental implant bonds with the jawbone properly. On your next visit, we will remove the temporary crown and replace it with a permanent crown.
